Michael Jackson in the Original We Are the World

We Are the World

With the recent remake receiving such huge national attention, I thought I would blog today about the original version which was released on March 7, 1985. The song was a worldwide commercial success, and it topped music charts all over the world becoming the fastest-selling pop single in world history.

We Are the World was a Panera print coupons monster hit - the first ever single to be certified triple platinum, and it even received a coveted 4X certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. Strangely, the song garnered mixed reviews from music critics. Many commentators in the national rock press were disappointed because the selection did not challenge listeners enough about why famines occur in the first place. They also felt that the lyrics were possibly self-aggrandizing.

  1. My dad has told me all kinds of stories about the original video, particularly how powerful and innovative it was when it was first released. Michael was a genious and will be missed!
